Alexander III of Macedon (Alexander the Great)
Alexander the Great (356–323 BCE) was king of Macedonia and one of history’s most successful military commanders. He conquered the Persian Empire and built a vast empire stretching from Greece and Egypt to India, largely before age 30. A student of Aristotle, Alexander spread Greek culture throughout his conquests, helping create the Hellenistic world. He died in Babylon at only 32, and his empire was divided among his generals.
