Peter Parker explains his whole motivation for saving people in his first appearance, and it is the whole neurosis of social 7,
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you"
This explains that Peter feels guilty about having his powers and not using them; he feels responsible for helping people rather than genuinely wanting to. Even in No Way Home, Green Goblin tells him
"I've watched you from deep behind Norman's cowardly eyes. Struggling to have everything you want, while the world tries to make you choose. Gods don't have to choose. We take."
This is very personal for Peter; he wants to have a good, normal life, having fun with MJ and Ned and not having to worry about any responsibilities, but because of his powers, he feels like he needs to repress that in order to be a Hero rather than Goblin's domineering approach (he is a Sexual 8)
He also overworks and even stops seeing MJ for 4 years because he feels he has to sacrifice his own personal feelings in order to prevent her from harm and to give her a good life
No rationality whatsoever, constantly concerned with his status within the Tony Soprano crew, tries to find ways to be different from the other mobsters and make meaning of his life, constantly imposes his ethics onto Tony and complains all the time behind his back to his fiancé about what he could do to him with everything he knows and has no control whatsoever over his own emotional expression
